Evaluation 5, How did you attract/address your audience?

How did you attract/address your audience?

The opening to our film, Viet-Con, is very similar to the opening to the James Bond films. This is because they both open with an action scene (a fight scene, chase scene or shoot out) and then show the titles after. We adapted this method and followed them because we believed that our film and James Bond were very similar as they are both action films and follow the typical conventions of an action film.

First of all we used fast paced music to link with the editing and with what is happening in our film, for example we used non digetic sound during the chase scene to help aid the audience through the scene. We also used music at the end to link with the end of the scene and the introduction of the titles-we did this because we wanted our film to end with a cliffhanger and keep the audience hooked and wanting more.We did this because it follows the typical conventions of an action film as it had the traditional fast paced music and traditional action scene as the opening.

I believe the unique selling point to our film was that our film was different to others; it had a sinister setting with high intensity aspects. It also had well known actors such as Graham Burgess, James Hill and Patrick Cowley.

Overall i believe that the sinister theme and opening action scene attracted our audience as we predicted, this is because our film is very similar to James Bond and the James Bond franchise was very successful.

Evaluation 6, What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

I have learnt alot about technologies from my product(Viet-Con). I learnt about making blogs, and using the website Blogger and using all of its features effectively by using tools such as spell check to increase the quality of my blogs and the google plus button to try and expand my viewing base . I also learnt how to use new editing techniques to increase the overall quality of production towards our film for example the speed up tool effect on mine and james's eyes to give the audience a dynamic POV effect of both characters using this tool. The last main thing i learnt in regards of technology is the power of camera angles, and how important it is to look into choosing the correct setting for shooting because of the instant representation a setting can give off to the audience sub consciously and we also tried to edit a title, but we couldn't quite find the right software to use for our titles.Overall i have learnt alot about the process of creating a product through technology.

Evaluation 7, Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I feel that I have learnt a lot in the time between filming my preliminary and my final film. I have learnt about the importance of camera angles and choosing a location which is best for my situation (action). We created our AS preliminary task film "Viet con" using adobe premiere elements because of the efficiency of Creating short clips with effective techniques such as the fade in fade out tool which was used in the begining and end of our film. I have also learnt a lot about the general conventions of films, as I have looked at many types of film during my planning so i can now pick out certain aspects and conventions of films in any clip i watch/analyse for example suspense in horror, and fast cuts in action films which we used in our clip.

Evaluation 8, What targets will you set yourself for G324 next year – when you will make a trailer?

                                                                              Targets for G324

I have set myself a range of targets for next year in G324 which i believe will let me progress further in A level Media Studies. For example to progress i will take more consideration in lighting and camera composition in the filming stage as my G321 filming process was slightly disrupted by the over toned dark lighting throughout the film which was supported by other audiences views on our opening 2 minutes,Also our camera composition was a bit shaky in areas of the filming which could be improved by using dynamic angles on the tripod to steady the camera in difficult positions.

If there was anything i would do differently it would probably be my length of blogs because although my blogs are full of quality information it is not quite as long as i hoped for which was confirmed for me when i saw the length of my class peers blogs length compared to a percentage of mine and i believe you have to have a good length throughout all of your blogs as well as quality throughout.
In my next production that i will create in G324 i will improve my film creation skills dramatically by concentrating more in the edditing proccess of the trailer as i was more focused on the blogs and acting side of hte film whereas cory was more a part of the ediiting stage then me however i did come up with the plot and sounds to use in our opening 2 minutes.

The one last thing i could improve and take into G324 with me is the higher standard of Mise-En-Sceane i and cory can use next year; when we were filming we were oblivious to the fact that we had no real dynamic costume and prop usage.this is why we are going to use props such as a gun or knife as well as a wider range of costumes for each character to improve the dynamic view for the audience which our film lacked.

Evaluation 3, What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What your film is similar to 'institutionally' (name some films which would be released in a similar way). You need to refer to actual company names and processes so you will need to go back to the early posts on film companies and maybe do a bit more research?

The link below shows me talking about what media institution might distribute our film and why in a directors commentary
           https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=grUTyJ00vR4
A production company is a company that produces new media, such as films and television programs. The company is also responsible for raising the money needed to fund the production. The production company can be either a small company or a larger one, selling its products to a film studio or presenting it at a studio. We would have universal distribute our film because they are a well known institution and have been successful all over the world.

The production would of been funded by indie film councils, however we had Universal to help us who funded the productions allowing us to hire top quality actors who could perform at the next level.

Films similar to our film, "Viet-Con", are the James Bond franchise. This is because both the James bond films and our film both start with an action scene before showing the opening titles-this is effective because it quickly grabs the audience and hooks them in. Another film that is similar to Viet-Con is the Jason Bourne franchise. This is because both the Jason Bourne films and our film are4 produced by the same institution, Universal. The Jason Bourne films are similar because they follow the same structure; they both are from the action genre and have a tension filled scene throughout the film.

The Jason Bourne films were very successful, especially "The Bourne Ultimatum".
The Bourne Ultimatum was produced and distributed by Universal Pictures, and had a budget of $110,000,000, was released on August 3, 2007, in North America, where it  earned $69,283,690 in ticket sales in its first weekend of release, making it the highest August opening in the U.S, breaking a record previously held by "Rush Hour 2" (2001) for the highest grossing August opening. The three films have been commercially successful and critically acclaimed and The Bourne Ultimatum won all three of its nominations for Academy Awards, winning the Best Film Editing, the Best Sound Mixing and the Best Sound Editing at the 80th Academy Awards.

Evaluation 4, Who would be the audience for your media product?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The target audience member I chose to do was tom collier Finn represented in the photo below

Tom Collier Finn's interests in films could conspicuous action elements with a high thrill level  because of how he has portrayed himself in the photo in regards to our films target audience.Toms labelled himself with this because of what he is wearing. The Nike jumper suggests that he likes to keep a low profile and enjoys high intensity aspects of films as the Nike label shows this and hoodies are generally related to criminals who want to keep a low profile just like Cory (agent Banks) in our film thus being attracted to our film.

Tom Collier Finn's representation through our film has made us think that he shops at clothing outlets such as sports direct because of the sporting lifestyle we have labelled him as shown by the picture of Tom Collier Finn wearing Nike sports gear (hoodie) which you primarily would buy from sports direct.Another way Tom Collier Finn portrays his character to the audience is through the exterior (part you cant see) for example Tom Collier Finn looks like someone that is into high intensity power songs that are often related to sports performance because of the sports jumper indicator.Toms hair also makes the audience think that he is sophisticated because of his smart parted hair.

Overall Tom Collier Finn is the perfect example of our target audience as his appearance and probable personality show it by having a sporty conspicuous action aura about him which relates to our conspicuous action genre film.
