Casino Royale opening sceane

Casino Royale opening two minutes analysis

In the opening scene of the film the first thing the audience see is James Bond talking on a secret frequency to another special agent suggesting something big is about to happen because of the secretiveness of the communication. The directer uses a pan shot of the African target in Madagascar before showing the audience an establishing shot of inner city Madagascar while using the feature of telling the audience where the scene is set with audio writing because of the unrecognisable location,Once the special agent makes a communication error with James bond the main antagonist the target then scampers away pushing anything out of its wake suggesting to the audience he is either incredibly important or has committed something huge giving the audience a sense of anticipation. The mise-en-scene of the clothes they are wearing are raggedy and light weight suggesting they are in a tropical climate and are ready to pounce to obtain the target or runaway quickly from the illegal cock fighting ring (which could be part of the plot). The scene then turns into a full on chase with no timidness or caution with the director using tracking shots to capture the chase as realistic for the audience as possible with both antagonists climbing and clambering through nooks and cranny's not stopping till they reach the end point of a building crane in the middle of the city giving the abidance suspense, danger and fear for the audience with them battling to the death until you find out James Bond needs to keep him alive while managing to keep himself alive before the target athletically jumps of the crane down to the city with James Bond following.

Analysis of the first 2 minutes of the raiders of the lost ark

in the first 2 minutes of the film it starts of with an establishing shot of an exotic jungle to set the scene for the audience and sub plot of the film by giving a sense of adventure. Then the antagonist character Indiana Jones walks in front of the mid shot showing the audience who is the leader of the group. The directer then cuts to a discover slashing leaves to get to a barely made out relic symbol which instantly gives the audience a sense of fear because of the way the discoverer sprints away from the relic which could be a recognised warning, and as the group realises what he has run away in fear from,Indiana Jones (the main antagonist) shrugs of the warning by looking at it and turning away from it in the shrubbery. The directer then does a final impact shot where he has a close up on a arrow in a tree with the group walking timidly past the tree suggesting the realisation of what the group are walking into, this gives the audience the effect of death which the arrow represents,it could also represent that colonies have driven out or killed trespassers in the position the group are in the south American jungle.

Lord Of The Rings Analysis

                                                            Lord of the Rings analysis

The opening scene of this film starts off with Smeagal (one of the main characters throughout before the ring cursed him) and Deagol in a Serene and jolly fishing scene where the camera does a birds eye view shot, moving slowly towards the main characters this gives the sense of calm and peace having a environment/Establishment shot to place the setting. This opening 10 seconds gives a good insight of the contrast between how calm everything is and how the ring destroys everything in its wake, no matter how spiritual or peaceful.

The directer then uses shots at a POV level to allow you to real engage and become one of the fictual characters, this is influential as after the two antagonistic characters have talked civilly Deagol gives the signs that he has caught a rather large fish by the way he struggles and cuts straight away from the conversation with Smeagol and suddenly gets dragged into the river which gives the assumption that deagol is too proud to let go off the rod until his human instinct kicks in too want to breath, leaving Smeagol worried about his so called friend.almost immediately after deagol lets go the director cuts to Smeagol showing him trying to scamper in the water giving the visual affect of danger, something shiny and out of place caught Deagol's eye it was the ring that destroys them all which was attempted to be disposed in the last film but failed showing the audience what is inevitably coming up through the film.once he clawed the ring from the bed of the sea having no regard for the soil in his hand or need to breath he scampers up onto the boat giving a relieved Smeagol the chance to pull him to safety.

Once Smeagol finds out deagol has this ring the directer uses medium to POV shots to help the audience visualise Smeagol and Deagols point of view as the two battle it out over this ring leaving the friendship and there most probable lifetime respect behind them Smeagol eventually strangles Deagol leaving him all the power in middle earth in his hands which then cuts back out over the land and uses long shots to show the audience the final piece of what Smeagol now has and how this Ring and storyline changes everyone and everything in a dark and sadistic way.

Diary Of Editing

                                                                    Diary Of Editing

Friday 31st January 2014-Thursday 13th February 2014

The editing of our did get underway until this date which is much later than other groups because we had 3 scenes to film and me and Cory decided to concentrate on our blog tasks before we started the editing process as we saw this was a more efficient way to complete our media course. Our footage was a bit pixelated at the start because of the amount of light intensity we had to change in the rendering process but managed to edit the scene in a way it isn't noticeable to the audience. At the start of the editing process Cory was able to piece together all of our clips and place them in order, once he finished this he went over all scenes that needed light and toned the intensity up.

The tools we used on adobe premier elements was the cut and speed up tool which is very useful in our clip as the film is about fast paced animatics throughout.

Diary Of Filming

                                                                     Diary Of Filming

Friday 20th December 2013

Today was the first day we started filming at the location of the swan centre leatherhead in the Christmas holidays because this is really the only time all 5 of us could meet.Once we all met up at the swan centre shops we set up our camera with the relevant placement and started to film at the swan centre top deck car park to film the walking scene and swan centre apartments car park slope for the first stand off scene, this was easier than the top deck scene as there was light already provided on the side of the building ( this took us about two hours over 2 days).

Sunday 5th January 2014

On day two of filming we met at Sainsburys at the lower deck of the swan centre at about 4 which means enough time to film in dusk and darkness which was decided when we filmed in the rainy dark conditions the day before, from there we immediately started to film the last part of the first stand off and chase scene in the extreme rain which was good because it created sinisterism and a heightened sense of emotions for the audience such as importance and intensity.
After Agent Banks reaches the meeting spot where the two henchmen and Connor arrives (with James the leader arriving shortly after) he then makes a dramatic entrance jumping off the wall,we had to re do this scene 3 times as he was struggling to jump off the wall so Cory gave his mysterious outfit to graham (henchmen #1)to do the stunt. We then ended filming in dark and extremely rainy conditions on top of the swan centre which made a brilliant film conclusion location and atmosphere, this took 3 hours because of the extra scene we had to do and the finishing off of the other scene which we filmed on the 20th of December.

Thursday 16th January 2014

On this day the only part of filming left was Cory(Agent Banks) and James(leader) filming the mysterious talk and flashback in the drama studio;this was a good location for this because of the silhouette effect it gives to the scene as it is a dark room and designed for acting. As i was not need i carried on with editing the rest of our opening two minuets at lunch time.

Practice Titles

Practice Titles

As the first image shows the practice titles i chose at the start was a gold title with a gold trim and white body because if we used this style of title it would show the audience what our clip is about;class and power, this will appeal to the audience because they can relate the titles to the clip as the gold colour gives an effect of wealth and power so the audience knows the clip is a high stakes action film.

My second image shows my final practice title as a gold trim with white and silver body because the audience can relate the practice titles and our clip even better than the other image as this practice title has more relevance to our clip by me creating a darker sinister side to the title (created by the darker silver trim) and conspicuous aura it creates by doing so; this is what will attract the audience the target audience.

Influences To Support Our Clip Creation

                                                        Documenting Influences of our clip

In our clip we used a vast amount of extreme (high and low) and dynamic camera angles because of the incitement it can bring to our target audience, for example during the start of the chase scene we set up a low angle shot of Connor (villain),Pat and Graham (Bodyguards) running towards the corner of the wall were the camera was looking up;as soon as the characters reached the camera it panned quickly to show clearly how far they have run, they are together and were they are heading towards (giving a greater interactive aspect to the audience by feeling as if they were in on the action). The Last camera angle i am going to express on is our over the shoulder scene of Cory (agent Banks) looking down on the antagonist characters from a balcony.

Target Audience Research

                                                             Audience Research Summary

The audience we chose our film to target was audiences that generally enjoy crime, action, sincerity and comedy all the great aspects for a typical male audience. Our film will appeal pro dominantly to the male audience because of our use of low lighting and unadulterated stand off action; this will attract the male audience by using scenes such as the chase one and by having a low lighting sinister atmosphere throughout the film attracting an older male audience,we know this as our questionnaire results show how popular our clips category is to the target audience. However other audiences such as 16+ females because of the typical reason for a love interest or figure which could be Connor as he is meant to signify a person that is accepted as a person which is fit(hence the Hawaiian shirt with buttons undone in the opening two minutes to represent fitness).this is why females can be attracted to this film.

Our film is a clip that aims to appeal to all older audiences that is a crime action film, other films that appeal to similar audiences are sin city for its low lighting dynamic feel to the film, lock stock and two smoking barrels for its very similar unadulterated extreme close up take on action which symbolises what our film is trying to achieve through the target audience, other similar films could include the dark knight rises which is similar by its sinister criminalise look on a film and kick ass 2 for the films constant aspect of merging comedy with crime-action.

Theses are the reasons we have given for a specific target audience of older males and possibly females which is stated above.

Costume Research 2

                                                                         Costume Research

The main protagonist and antagonist could be wearing suit to show their superiority over the the other characters. The main protagonist could have a grey or navy suit like the one Daniel Craig uses in the James Bond films (shown in the image to the side).

The main antagonist could have a black suit (shown in the image to the left) which would follow the typical costumes of an action villain-however we may have the main antagonist wearing a light coloured suit such as a cream suit (shown in the image below) to subvert the typical stereotypes and so that he is not easily spotted which could shock the audience and create suspense.

Props Research 2

                                                              Props Research

Guns And Knives

We may use guns such as pistols as they are the usual weapon for the main protagonist, an example of this would be James Bond as he always has his traditional Walther PPK. We could also include more destructive and exciting weapons such as machine guns or grenades to create explosions. The guns would be spray painted black to look more realistic and also hidden from the sight the enemies. We could also use a knife as back up to the gun for stealth scenes or close quarters.

Earpiece
We could use an earpiece to allow the main protagonist to be updated about his missions and follow his instructions, the villains may also have earpieces in order to communicate with each other. The ear pieces would have no cables and look professional as if it were a real prop from a James Bond film.
BriefcaseA briefcase could be used in order to create an enigma. It would either be black or dark brown which would look old and stylish. The briefcase could contain anything from money to weapons which makes the audience question and wonder why it has been used.

Mobile Phone
We may have someone with a phone to show that he is wealthy and maybe a business man that is distanced from the characters as they have ear pieces. The main antagonist could use it to show that he is more superior to the rest as he is different to them.

                                                                      Online Tutorials
I used this tutorial to speed up a part of my film to create a fast paced effect and make it seem like the audience are rushing down to the characters. I used this in the opening scene when the camera quickly pans down to the characters on the ground. I clicked the time stretch tool and then cut the clip to speed it up and shorten the original clip.
I used this tutorial to slow down one of the scenes to give a dramatic effect as the opening was coming to an end. I used this in the ending scene when the climax comes to a close. I again used the time stretch tool but instead of cutting the clip I extended it and created a slow motion effect.
